It seems it was a good thing we never tried engaging four wheel drive with the electric shift transfer case purchased from Schiele & Sons. As we took it apart for powder coating, we found several issues with the internals. The oil pump was damaged beyond repair. The sector shaft was badly grooved and the slip yoke mechanism was in horrible condition. It quickly became clear that it was going to require a different transfer case as major parts for the 1356 had become hard to find. It was decided to go back to a manual shift unit once the opportunity presented itself.
