Fabricating and Installing a Custom Stainless Steel Exhaust
It was finally time to get a new exhaust designed and installed on the truck. There are not many shops left that do custom exhaust work. These skills are dying out it seems. However, I was fortunate to find a shop in St. Charles, Complete Auto & Exhaust, that does this work every day. Not only were they very accommodating, they did great work and the cost came in much lower than than they had originally quoted.
It is made of 3″ stainless steel tubing. Unfortunately there is nowhere in the entire St. Louis area that offers mandrel bending. So I had to have it made up of mandrel bent pieces welded together in order to ensure a smooth and unobstructed path for the exhaust to flow efficiently. To facilitate the removal of the exhaust to have it ceramic coated, they installed stainless steel quick release directly behind the Y-pipe. If you’re wondering why I chose a single exhaust system rather than dual, there just was not enough space under the bed to accommodate two mufflers and exit behind the rear tires. They did great work and I am very pleased with the results.
